Our Path to Permanent
Makeup Training

Julie Michaud, Prettyology’s Founder and Lead Instructor, is all about teaching women how to accentuate their true natural beauty. She founded her first makeup studio in 1997 after encountering women with drawers full of makeup and tools that they didn’t know how to use and others who weren’t quite sure how to work around medical issues like cancer, alopecia, trichotillomania or Bell’s palsy. She trained in and started performing micropigmentation (permanent makeup) in 2002 and has been a leader in the field ever since. After 25 years in the industry she opened Prettyology as Boston’s first “beauty lab,” now one of the largest micropigmentation centers in the country.

Julie opened the Prettyology Micropigmentation Academy after recognizing that many practitioners weren’t getting the foundational or hands-on experience that they needed to perform these services competently, confidently and successfully. She felt compelled to not only practice micropigmentation, but to also teach to ensure that proper knowledge and techniques are flourishing.

Supporting Instructor Jackie Dalton

jackie Dalton

Jackie has over 14 years of experience as permanent makeup artist and has been with Prettyology since the day we opened. She quickly became an in-demand Senior Micropigmentation Artist. In June 2015, Jackie decided to transfer her medical talent and left her lifelong career as a nuclear cardiology technologist to practice micropigmentation full-time with Prettyology. Jackie specializes with clients that like a more defined, stylized look. She is a master of eyeliner and lips and is our in-house lip micropigmentation trainer. She also has an abundance of experience in scar correction, scar camouflage, areola restoration and works closely with our advanced training students.

Supporting Instructor Shalyn Gamba

shalyn gamba

Shalyn is a Senior Micropigmentation Artist and the recipient of 2017 Best of Boston, Best Eyebrows - awarded by Boston Magazine. She joined Prettyology upon opening in 2013 and quickly became Prettyology’s in-house microblading instructor. She has devoted the last few years to perfecting the art of microblading as well as gracefully cultivating that same talent in our other staff members. Shalyn is a naturally talented artist who has a fine eye for detail and balanced beauty. She has made it her priority to simplify teaching so the newer artists “get it” confidently and quickly. Having trained with several leaders in the microblading world, it was a natural shift for Shalyn to transition into micropigmentation training.
